Your career
Courses that kickstart your career
To make sure our courses give you the skills and knowledge employers are looking for, we invite businesses and professional associations to help us design them. Many courses meet industry-recognised quality standards – and qualify you to join professional bodies like the Law Society or the British Computer Society.
Work experience opportunities
Work placements are an excellent opportunity to apply the knowledge you've gained, and a great addition to your CV. Most of our placements are here in the UK, but you might also decide to take one abroad, which offers extra benefits in terms of independence and possibly even language skills.

Learning in the workplace
As well as placements, there are chances to work on real projects for businesses as part of your course. You can also go on field trips and study visits – including some abroad – to give you the broadest possible experience and improve your career prospects.
Guest lectures from industry leaders
As well as our staff's experience and knowledge, you can also learn from guest lectures delivered by industry leaders from companies like HSBC, PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM to give you an up-to-date insight into the latest thinking in your field.
Starting your own business
If you like the idea of being your own boss, you can use our Hatchery® while you're a student or up to five years after you've graduated. It's a free business service which provides a protective environment in which to get your new business off the ground.
Advice and guidance
Our professional, experienced careers advisers offer individual and impartial guidance sessions. They also arrange an extensive programme of careers-related events, including recruitment fairs, employer presentations, how to write an effective CV, interview techniques, employer-led skills sessions and more.
Helping you find part-time work
Our netWORK employment service can help you find a part-time job while you study, a temporary job during the vacation, or a job after you have graduated.

We are proud of our people
Among our previous students are the creator of the world's most popular Twitter application Iain Dodsworth, Kal Atwal, the managing director of comparethemarket.com and Nick Park, the Oscar-winning creator of Wallace and Gromit.
And our students continue to make us proud. Kelly-Jayne Johnson graduated with a first in accounting and financial management in 2008 and went on to achieve the highest result in the world in the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants professional exam on financial strategy in 2011.
Former Sheffield Hallam sports students include three rugby internationals for England and Scotland, and an Olympian bobsledder. Christina Chitwood, a 2009 performing arts graduate, represents Great Britain at ice dancing. While she was here she did a work placement at IceSheffield and used her study to improve her routines.
