BA (Hons) Business with Management

Course leader: Katherine Gardiner k.m.gardiner@shu.ac.uk
This course is part of the Summer School Programme. It is a final year degree continuation from the Advanced Diploma in Business Studies (Business Administration) studied in Malaysia. The course has been designed to broaden and deepen the knowledge you have gained in your Advanced Diploma.
The University has recognised your study at TARC, and has approved an additional programme of 'business based' units which will, when taken following your TARC Advanced Diploma, give you a total study experience worthy of recognition as a UK business degree. The programme you will undertake here at Sheffield comprises 60 credits of work at UK degree level 6.
You may be encouraged to know we have had an excellent pass rate on the degree course so far. Over two hundred students have successfully graduated, almost all of them with upper or lower second class honours degrees.
Entry Requirements
This course is only available for students who have completed their Advanced Diploma at Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Malaysia in 1999 or after 1999.
Units of Study
You will study three compulsory units which build on your level Advanced Diploma studies.
• Contemporary Issues in International Business
You will have considered some aspects of international business in modules taken earlier in your course and will do so again in the ISO module. These modules are concerned with techniques, strategies and policies relevant to international firms and also cover the key features of the international business environment. This module aims to integrate these techniques and strategies with the knowledge you have gained about the international business environment and apply them to the principal contemporary activities and developments that are taking place at the time the module is delivered.
• International Strategic Operations
This module builds upon the International Business Environment unit studied at TARC and complements the Contemporary Issues in International Business module. In the global marketplace the effective management of strategic business is a critical factor of success. This module examines the range of strategies available to international companies to achieve their goals and the methods used to manage and control international operations within a dynamic global business environment.
• Strategic Marketing Management
The strategic application of marketing principles is essential for the long term survival of all organisations. Strategic market planning both co-ordinates activities within the firm and directs and manages the relationships an organisation has with customers, suppliers and the wider environment. For this reason it is argued that an understanding of the strategic market planning process is essential for all students of business. A further rationale is that this module builds upon the marketing unit studied in your Advanced Diploma in Business Studies (BA) at TARC.
Assessment
Every unit is assessed by both coursework and examination. You must achieve an overall mark of 40% to pass a unit.
