Liz Winders
Secretary and Registrar and Clerk to the Board of Governors
Liz Winders was appointed as University Secretary in July 2004 and her role was changed to Secretary and Registrar in September 2005. Liz is a History graduate of the London School of Economics; she began her career in the Examinations Office at City of London Polytechnic in 1980. During the early part of her career Liz also worked in faculty administration at the Polytechnic of Central London. Over a total of twelve years at City of London Polytechnic, later London Guildhall University, Liz progressed through a number of roles to become Academic Secretary and Clerk to the Board of Governors.
Moving to Oxford Brookes University in 1994, Liz worked in senior management roles there for nearly 10 years, first as Academic Registrar and then as Director of Academic and Student Affairs and Clerk to the Board of Governors. During that time she was extensively involved with the development of Oxford Brookes University, including the restructuring of the University’s support departments and leading a University-wide review of student-related business processes and information systems.
Liz is responsible for corporate governance and planning, registry services, business improvement services and risk management including health and safety. She is the Executive Lead for the University's major change programme for process and service improvement - Changing to Improve - and heads a cross-University team of heads of services - the Professional Services Leadership Team.
Liz is Honorary Treasurer of the Association of Heads of University Administration and a member of its Executive Committee. Her professional interests have included staff development and equality and diversity issues and she has undertaken consultancy work on administrative systems for the University of Petrosani in Romania.
