Mark Swales
Director of Estates and Facilities
Mark Swales is the Director of Estates and Facilities and is responsible for the staff, resources and services provided by the Facilities Directorate to support the University's core activities; to contribute to corporate strategic planning; to determine the framework and standards for facilities provision and to ensure their continuous development to meet the requirements of the corporate plan.
Mark studied hotel management at Sheffield Polytechnic back in the late seventies and worked in the hotel and leisure industry for around 10 years. He then moved to Keele University as catering services manager for five years before starting at Sheffield Hallam University in 1992.
Mark has worked at a national level representing the University on many sector wide organisations and projects. He is renowned in the sector and the University for 'getting things done'.
He is currently heading up the review of timetabling which forms part of the Professional Services Review and nationally he is leading on the development of a revised code of practice for the management of student accommodation on behalf of UUK.
