Philip Severs
Director of Finance
Philip Severs was appointed as Director of Finance in February 2001. He has substantial public and private sector experience and having built a major part of his career in transport organisations responding to the privatisation and deregulation agenda has played a central role in driving major corporate change.
In his previous role of corporate services director at Centro, the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive, he was responsible for finance, human resources, IT and corporate planning and was also project director for the £145 million Midland Metro light rail project.
Philip has experience of further education (FE) having been a key member of the team that established City College Manchester as one of the leading FE colleges, doubling its turnover in two years and halving its dependence on Further Education Funding Council for England funding. As well as being responsible for finance, Philip has also held commercial and operational management responsibilities.
Philip holds a BSc in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Nottingham, is a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and a member of the Chartered Management Institute. In May 2005, he was appointed the North East representative for the British Universities Finance Director's Group (BUFDG).
