Professor Alistair Sambell
Pro-Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences
Professor Sambell was previously Dean of the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Science (CEIS) at Northumbria University, which he joined in 1992. He had worked prior to that at Northern Electric, which he joined following undergraduate and doctoral studies in electronic engineering at York University.
Initially employed as a research associate at Northumbria, he was promoted through various roles to become Dean of CEIS in 2004, leading the formation of one of the largest of Northumbria's Schools.
Professor Sambell has a strong commitment to enhancing the student experience, with a personal engagement in initiatives in peer mentoring, learner autonomy and computer aided assessment. He has over 80 publications in microwave systems, electronic devices and pedagogy and is a chartered engineer, fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
