We often hold online webchat sessions where you will be able to speak with current Sheffield Hallam University staff, students or guest lecturers.

Live webchat for international students
Do you want to find out more about Sheffield Hallam University and studying in the UK? We host online chat sessions for international students every Wednesday from 9–10am.
Staff and students will be online to answer any questions you may have about the University and studying in the UK, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, student support, student life etc.
How to join the web chat
- Select the web chat link (make sure the chat room is open).
- Log in using your name.
- You may be asked to click a link to launch the session manually. You may also be asked to open or save a join.jnlp file. Simply follow the instructions.
- If a security warning dialogue box appears, click 'Run'.
- Accept the Collaborate Participant Agreement.
- Select the correct internet connection speed for your session. This affects the quality of the session.
- You can now join the web chat.
Sending text-chat messages
- To send a message to the entire group, type your message in the box and press return.
- To send a message to an individual, double-click their name in the participant list, and text-chat through the new tab at the bottom of the chat panel.
Adjusting the layout
Each panel can be dragged and dropped on your desktop and adjusted to suit you.
The web chat uses Blackboard Collaborate which works on most machines. Check your settings
