Activities and support over the festive break

The University will be closed from Friday 23 December at 4pm until Tuesday 3 January, 8am.

We know that many of our students may stay in Sheffield over the festive period. Please be assured we still have a range of events, services and support available for students both in halls and at home during this time.

Urgent help

If you require urgent help there are security staff available 24/7. To contact them please call ext. 2000 on internal phones or 0114 225 2000 if calling from an external line.

Supporting your wellbeing

The Wellbeing Service will close at 4pm on Friday 23 and reopen on Tuesday 3 January. There are still lots of support and resources available to support your mental health and wellbeing.

Our Student Wellbeing Service page provides information, advice and practical support to help you manage your studies and make the most of university life.

Our online self help service Togetherall, is free for students at Hallam. You can log in with your student email address.

Library and Skills Centre 

Our two campus libraries are open 24/7. We will be offering complimentary tea and coffee making facilities between Friday 23 December and Tuesday 3 January.

The Library Skills Centre will close on Friday 23 December and reopen on Tuesday 3 January. The last drop-in session before the festive break will be on Wednesday 14 December, 4-6pm. Library Chat will continue to be available as part of the library online.

Studiosity, a free online writing feedback and live chat service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is open to all students

Careers and employability

Our Careers Connect building will be closed from 23 December until 3 January. During this closure, you can access our Careers and Employability website for digital support with applications and any other careers related queries. You can also find a ‘Careers Support over the Holidays’ online package of digital tools to help you focus and build upon your career aspirations over the winter break.

Student-led social activities 

The International Experience Team are running a programme of events and activities over the festive break, from board games to local walks and all-day trips. These are open to all students, so come and join in if you are in Sheffield over the festive break. Check out the GoGlobal Festive Calendar

The Multifaith Chaplaincy

The Multifaith Chaplaincy centre will close at 4.00pm on Friday 23 December and will reopen on Tuesday 3 January. View a list of activities and places of worship for different faith communities across the city.

Access to specialist technical spaces for self directed learning

For access to specialist technical spaces up to Friday 23 December please use the link below to contact the relevant technical team. Specialist Technical spaces such as workshops and laboratories will all then be closed from Friday 23 December until Tuesday 3 January in line with the full University closure period. There will be no access for self-directed learning during this time.

IT support

During the University’s closure period, if you have an urgent query you can still contact our out-of-hours service on 0114 225 3333 all day, every day.

You can also report issues, or submit requests, using our self-service portal which will be dealt with when the University reopens. You can find more information on the IT and Library services tab.

Students' Union

The building will close for the festive period on Thursday 22 December at 5pm. The HUBS will reopen as normal on Tuesday 3 January at 8am. For further information, please contact the Students' Union. Support services
