Students from Sheffield Hallam become Registered IT Technicians

Monday 05 February 2018

Three computing students who returned from successful placements have all been entered onto the Register of IT Technicians.

One of our key strategic pillars at Sheffield Hallam is 'Leading locally, engaging globally', for STA that means building strong partnerships with professional bodies and employers that connect our staff and students to broader opportunities for KE and CPD. One of the ways we have successfully done this in the Department of Computing is to create a new partnership with BCS to give students on placement the chance to have their work recognised formally.

Students returning from placement can now apply to be entered on the Register of IT Technicians (RITTech). RITTech is maintained by BCS and can be accessed by the public but most searches are done by prospective employers and recruiters. A member of BCS is placed on the register once they can demonstrate they have a core understanding of IT, have technical competence in at least one area that is measured and have signed up to a professional code of conduct.

So far three Sheffield Hallam students have been entered onto RITTech but we hope to grow this number significantly year on year. You can read about their success here and look them up on the register by name.

If you would like to find out more about how your students can be entered onto the register please contact Mike Heselton or you can visit the BCS stand at the upcoming STACK event on 28th February.
