We are hoping to use this event to raise the profile of the Special Olympics which is being held in Sheffield this summer. In addition to this SIoE is planning a number of fundraising activities help to raise funds for some of the Sheffield based athletes. If you are selected to be part of team GB athletes are required to buy their tracksuits and pay to be involved in the event. This comes at a cost of approximately £1000 an athlete. Many of the athletes are not in paid employment and this expense could limit some athletes ability to compete. If you would like to raise awareness of the summer games you can find more information via www.sheffield2017.org.uk

Keynote

We are fortunate to have the opportunity to meet two team GBs Special Olympians. Niall and Alexander are looking forward to taking part in the Special Olympics which are coming to Sheffield this summer. Niall and Alexander’s mums will also joining us along with one of their previous teachers. They will share their experiences in school and the impact a broad curriculum had on their development as confident young men who are driven to achieve their person best in all areas of their life.

We will also have the opportunity to hear from Mike Haigh from The Rowan school who will talk to us about a creative curriculum, how it is designed in his school and how they encourage children to create, discover and investigate.
