Postgraduate research

Sheaf building

The head of postgraduate research study in Sheffield Institute of Education is Dr Gill Adams.

We offer supervision for MPhil/PhD students to research full-time or part-time in areas covered by our research areas of strength. These are organised around the research activities and interests of the individual staff members. Find out more about SIoE's main research areas and projects.

In addition to the PhD we run a professional doctorate leading to the award of Doctorate in Education (EdD). This is a part-time programme which recruits every two years.

As a research student in education, you will be affiliated with the Sheffield Institute for Education which produces high-quality research in educational policy and practice, creating positive benefits for children and young people, their teachers and other professionals. Our internationally recognised researchers conduct research for government departments, professional bodies and charities.

For examples of postgraduate research titles within SIoE, please see students' current thesis titles and recently completed research.
