Students create animation for children's author Christina Gabbitas
Tuesday 01 August 2017
Over the past year our animation students have been producing an animated adaptation of Christina Gabbitas's Share Some Secrets, a book on child protection supported by the NSPCC.
'This project has given us an opportunity to engage our students in a unique client project that offers a valuable, challenging experience, as well as the chance for recent graduates to use their developed skills in animation,' said Melvyn Ternan, Senior Lecturer in Animation. 'Through the project we can engage with people both locally and globally as they view our work based on Christina’s successful book. It is our hope that this will play a significant role in further helping children find their voice.'
On the 19 October we were delighted to welcome Christina Gabbitas to Sheffield Hallam for a special launch event of the animation. Christina spoke at the event, which included a screening of the animation along with talks from Karen Squilino, Head of Children's School Service NSPCC, and the Lord Mayor of Sheffield. Students and local head teachers had the chance to ask questions of a panel consisting of Christina Gabbitas and the animation students who worked on the project.
