Sports Mag case study

Marketing student Fran Webster and business student Gary Poynton worked for Student Sport Magazine. The newly launched business is run by Sheffield Hallam graduate Nathan Grey and student Matt Walsh. Nathan and Matt met in the university’s Hatchery, which supports entrepreneurial students and graduates.

Student Sport Magazine approached the Venture Matrix with a marketing project to help launch the magazine during Varsity and the British Universities and Colleges Championships.

Gary and Fran took up the challenge, attending many of the launch events to help raise awareness, take pictures and gather social media followers.

The project gave Gary and Fran the opportunity to put their skills into practice and work for a real-life client. It also gave them an insight into life after graduation from an entrepreneur, who was recently a student himself, and who has a continuing relationship with the university.
