Dr Adam Hart-Davis

Honorary Doctorate - 2003

For the public at large, Dr Adam Hart-Davis has become the most popular and understandable face of science and technology, recognisable by many as the presenter on a mountain bike in fluorescent pink and yellow. A freelance photographer, writer and broadcaster, he has excelled at making intricate inventions and complex concepts accessible, interesting and inspiring through his work.

In 2001, he gave a popular lecture at the University on how people today can be inspired by the inventive geniuses of the past and present. While they did not feature in the lecture, he now claims to own seven cycles - 'one for each occasion'.

Adam was due to receive his Honorary Doctorate at the 2002 ceremonies, but was unable due to ill health.
