Kay Mellor

Honorary Doctorate - 2003

Kay Mellor is an acclaimed writer responsible for some of TV's most remarkable dramas. Her work has been produced for stage, television and feature film. Born and brought up in Leeds she firmly believes that Yorkshire provides a rich inspiration for her characters.

Her work includes the BAFTA nominated Band of Gold, Fat Friends and Playing the Field. Her writing talent was also brought to the big screen with Girls' Night Out which starred Julie Walters and Brenda Blethyn.

In 1999, Kay realised her dream of directing her own feature film, Fanny and Elvis.
