Quentin Thompson has many years distinguished service in the fields of strategy, policy and the management of higher education, working with universities, senior civil servants and ministers. He is a recognised national and international expert in these fields and has also been a visiting professor at the Institute of Education, University of London.
For more than 20 years he was the partner and head of the education consultancy practice in Coopers and Lybrand and then in PricewaterhouseCoopers. Since 1999, he has been an independent consultant.
At one time or another, he has worked for about half of all the universities in the UK as well as for all the various central government education bodies. Overseas he has worked on higher education policy in many countries including China, Indonesia, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Syria, Jordan, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Portugal, Netherlands, Mozambique, Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
He is currently the driving force behind the Bowland initiative, funded by the Bowland Trust with support from government, to develop a series of exciting case studies aimed at making maths for 11 - 14 year olds more fun both for pupils and for teachers.
