Steve Peat

Honorary Doctorate - 2008

Steve Peat is three times World cup champion mountain biker who hails from Sheffield.

The 34-year-old has won two world championships, eight British titles, two European championships and has had 15 World Cup wins in his chosen sport. In the 2008 summer season alone Steve clocked up seven awards, including British National Champion, as he travelled the world competing.

Steve has been riding since he was three, starting on BMX bikes before graduating to mountain bikes. He started racing at the age of 19 and says his biggest influence were his brothers along with other professional racers.

The former Ecclesfield Comprehensive pupil trains hard for the racing season during which time he is also trying to get a Steve Peat academy off the ground so he can put something back into the sport he loves and teach others.
