Vicky Seddon joined Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1969 as a lecturer in the department of Mathematics and Statistics and stayed with the institution in its various guises until her retirement this year.
She has held a number of roles including head of the counselling service and manager of the learner support team, which included education guidance and support for international students. She holds the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Senior accredited Practioner status, is well known in the sector counselling community and is often called upon to give advice to other universities about the running of counselling services.
During her time at Sheffield Hallam, Vicky has been active on a number of committees, being the current longest serving member of the Academic Board as well as staff governor. She was also national treasurer of her trade union, NATFHE, for seven years.
Vicky also has a very active life outside the University. She has been treasurer of the Sheffield Law Centre, is the national chair of Charter 88 and the vice-chair of the Sheffield Media and Exhibition Centre. She is part of the Octette Reading Group and regularly opens her garden to the public as part of the Broomhill Festival.
