Having originally served an apprenticeship as an electrician and working in telecommunications I trained as a registered nurse working in Emergency care. After several years working in A&E developing my skills in advanced practice initially in A&E and later in the pre-hospital environment.
I have worked in several Emergency Departments around the UK as well as working for the Ambulance Service as an Emergency Care Practitioner. In 2007 I moved into an education role within a local Ambulance Service until moving to Canada in 2010. In 2010/11 I worked with the British Columbia Ambulance Service whilst living in Vancouver on a year's sabbatical.
I am a registered nurse with advanced practice background in Urgent and Emergency care. I have experience of working both in and out of hospital. I hold an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and PGC in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and I am also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My passions include a special interest in developing Technology Enhanced Learning within the college. I remain clinically active working occasional shifts in Emergency care.
