Bernadette Stiell is a Senior Research Fellow in CEIR with a track record of conducting, managing and directing projects in CEIR since 2005. She has over 20 years social research experience in the fields of education, social policy and social geography.
About
Her research interests focus on the social inclusion of children, young people and families, particularly the wider aspects of schooling and education. Funders include government departments, national and regional agencies, authorities and charities, with an emphasis on conducting policy and implementation research and evaluation. Recent projects for DfE have included the evaluations of Evidence-Based Teaching (EBT); Shanghai Maths; Exclusion Appeals; KS2 level 6 testing; Phonics Screening Check; and PSHE mapping.
MEI funded Further Maths Support Programme projects; DfE's Exclusion Appeals study; EEF's RCT process evaluations of Booktrust reading initiatives; NCETM CPD Programme Evaluation; New Routes to Headship study (with IoE);; PSHE Mapping Study (all for DfE); and DCSF's Choice Advice Evaluation. Bernie uses mixed methods, including case studies and the development of innovative and creative qualitative techniques. Recent funders of her research have included Government Departments, national and regional agencies, authorities and charities. Prior to her current role, Bernadette was a Senior Research Officer in the Department of Education and Skills (DfES), where she was responsible for commissioning and managing a range of educational research projects.
