About
I am presently the subject group leader for the staff who work within information systems in the department. We teach a wide variety of modules that feed into many of the degrees offered. I have also been the business developer in CPD for the College liaising with corporate partners such as SAS who are crucial in the development of courses in the department.
The remainder of my time is devoted to lecturing and subject development in the area of data analytics. We have recently developed the MSc in Big Data Analytics which has been running for three years and is a vibrant course. This year we launched out new BSc in Data Science; one of the first universities to offer this degree. I have been teaching analytical type modules since starting at Sheffield Hallam University and have seen how the subject has developed in time with the wider use of technology and the more powerful tools available now for collecting and analysing data of all forms.
I am an assessor for the HEA fellowship award in the university and am part of the Athena Swan team for the department. Computing is an area which struggles to attract female students, although this is less of a problem in the analytics area. I am working with the teams in the department to encourage female students and staff using role models and mentoring schemes
