  • About

    Since 1982 I have taught in several secondary schools and colleges across West and South Yorkshire, witnessing an ever changing educational landscape, which has been subjected to many government changes in order to 'improve the quality of education'. I have also experienced first-hand the positive and negative impact these changes have had on both pupils and teachers.

    My teaching roles have included being a Head of Department, Head of Year and Head of Faculty. From 2002 – 2009 I was as an Assistant Headteacher in ‘challenging school’ one of my main duties was to ensure the professional development of teachers and teacher trainees. I am driven by my passion for pupils’ receiving the best possible teaching and thus best learning. I believe that every pupil has the potential to do well and it is the quality of the educational experience that turns potential into real lasting achievement. Therefore, teachers at every stage of their career deserve high quality training and support. This will ensure that the profession continues to attract and retain the very best practitioners, who are able to deliver outstanding teaching and learning in any setting. In September 2015 I took on an additional leadership responsibility of Leading and Managing the Post 16 team. In 2016 I became an Educational Trustee at Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, an educational charity who provides learning experience to children and young people, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds and the inner city’.

    My personal interests include supporting schools, academies and other organisations who work in areas of social deprivation and who provide inspirational learning and teaching to engage pupils in education which will help to improve their life chances.

    I am currently researching reasons why some Teach First participants do not remain in the placement school after the initial two year programme and track the destinations of the participants. The research also aims to demonstrate how Teach First participants impact on education beyond the first two years.
