As Deputy Head of Department I am responsible for working collaboratively to develop and deliver the faculty vision and strategy in ensuring an excellent student experience. This is achieved through the development and actioning of the annual business plan and associated action plans.
I act as support to the Head of Nursing and Midwifery to take an overview of all quality assurance/enhancement and curriculum issues. This includes leading on NMC monitoring events and reviewing programmes to ensure professional standards are met.
I also lead within the department on initiatives to manage cultural and organisational change, ensuring that resources are effectively managed. I contribute do the identification and development of new business including tender submissions. Knowledge transfer is high on the departmental agenda and I am responsible for ensuring staff are appropriately developed to responsively meet the needs of our stakeholders.
I adopt an external facing approach to the development, growth and sustainability of the departmental business and am required to actively engage with stakeholders at senior organisation level and promote the profile of the department at local and national level. This also includes International profiling of the department by attending and presenting at internal and external events e.g. meeting the British Council Chinese Delegation
I hold line management responsibilities for 6 Principal Lecturers and through them ensure all departmental staff meet appraisal, developmental, peer review requirements and where necessary engage in problem resolution.
I have direct responsibility for ensuring meetings for operational /planning functions, e.g., target setting, module cleansing, management of attrition data, work-planning, monitoring of link lecturer activity, working with the Heads of each academic area to achieve this.
