Kaeren van Vliet

Senior Lecturer In Planning

Summary

I joined Sheffield Hallam, after twenty years in practice in landscape architecture and planning, as a senior lecturer in urban planning and design in 2007.  I have been course leader for the MSc Urban Planning since 2009.

About

My main interest is in sustainable urban design and in implementing design quality across both the built and natural environment through the planning process. My current research interests focus on design quality within contemporary UK and European residential environments including urban extensions and brownfield sites.

I am currently undertaking a PhD in an aspect of residential design and am also involved in a project looking at the integration and implementation of green infrastructure in contemporary urban extensions.

I lead on a number of  postgraduate planning modules  including: Sustainable City Ecologies, Shaping Places and Comparative International Planning and on an undergraduate module: Sustainable Settlements.

I held an enabler role with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment between 2009 and 2012 and am a member of the Sheffield City Sustainable Urban Design Panel.
