Louise Barrett

Department Manager, Department of Finance, Accounting & Business Systems

Summary

As Student Experience Manager I have oversight of the student experience for the Department of Service Sector Management, working with the Head of Department and the management team to ensure resources and activities meet departmental needs.

About

This role has given me the opportunity to manage and develop many aspects of the student experience including placements, induction, invitation days, student voice and retention. Moreover, doing this role as a part-time job share has allowed me to pursue out of work activities, such as cultivating an allotment, flower arranging and yoga.

I joined Sheffield Hallam University from the University of Sheffield, where I was Conference Sales and Marketing Manager for 10 years, delivering a varied range of commercial and not-for-profit events from ten to over 1,000 participants. From this and previous hotel conference roles I have experience of providing high levels of customer service in fast paced, hands-on, sales growth orientated work environments. In my mid-twenties I completed a part-time MBA at Sheffield Hallam. Juggling managing shift work and working evenings and weekends to complete coursework was a huge commitment over four years. I feel that the learning and personal development achieved did help to be invaluable in both progressing and changing my career.
