I joined the Sport Coaching teaching team in 2014. My research and teaching interests are in sport performance, coaching pedagogy and talent development. Before joining Sheffield Hallam I held various rugby league coaching roles and managed talent development programmes. My current research activity involves exploring the influence of sociocultural constraints on expertise acquisition.
I have worked in the fields of coaching and talent development since 2003. During this time I have managed the implementation and running of the inaugural Midlands Regional Rugby League Academy, overseeing the development of talented teenagers into professional Rugby League and developing a coaching workforce to support local needs. In addition, I have experience of coaching student rugby league at a local and regional level, and have worked with the coaching team at Coventry Bears RLFC. In 2011 I was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to visit New Zealand and Australia to investigate alternative coaching methods and competition structures. I am currently studying for a PhD, using key concepts of ecological dynamics to explore the influences of sociocultural constraints on the development of expert players in rugby league. I'm a keen triathlete and enjoy watching most sporting events.
