A qualified social worker registered with the HCPC. Experience of frontline practice within generic, hospital and community mental health settings. Wider experience of social care work with people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and older people. Have held management and professional lead roles and have vast experience in social work training and development as well as having held specialist practice teaching roles. Experience of external examiner duties for undergraduate, post graduate and post qualifying programmes.
After graduating in 1984 I began working within the social care sector in 1985 firstly working with adults with learning disabilities and then working with adults with physical and mental health problems. I completed my social work training in 1991 at Bretton Hall, Leeds University. After qualifying I worked within a generic social work setting and then as a Hospital Social Worker.
In 1995 I began working within the mental health sector and completed the Post Qualifying Award in Mental Health enabling me to practice as an Approved Social Worker under the Mental Health Act 1983.
From 2000 onward I became increasingly involved in staff training and development and I also completed the Post Qualifying Award in Practice Teaching, whilst maintaining my Approved Social Work status. I have been a full time lecturer in Social Work since 2009 and hold a Postgraduate Diploma and Masters Degree in Post-Compulsory Education and Training.
