Stuart Pybus

Lecturer in Policing

Previously a police officer and having delivered training in various formats since 1975, I now utilise my police experience with my educational qualifications (gained at Sheffield Hallam University) to deliver courses supporting prospective and newly appointed police officers in gaining their undergraduate degree/ apprenticeship degree/post degree qualifications.

After working in the retail industry for a few years, I joined the police service and served with Lincolnshire Police, South Yorkshire Police and The Bermuda Police Service. In Bermuda I ran computer training when the force computerised in 1987 and this eventually led to me working for a company in the USA delivering training in computer use to police services in the USA and various forces in the Caribbean region.

I have run my own training company - specialising in I.T., Customer Service and Communication Skills and Business Improvement Techniques (LEAN processing).Prior to joining Sheffield Hallam University, I worked with South Yorkshire Police in Quality Assurance, assessing evidence to support a variety of qualifications and worked as part of the team on the Police Education Qualifications Framework.

My qualifications are in education and in using technology to enhance education and I now have my ideal job - combining my previous experience with my teaching qualifications to provide lectures and seminars supporting police officers to gain their degree (and post degree qualifications) .

Undergraduate Degree in Professional Policing - BA (Hons) Professional Policing Practice
Undergraduate Degree in Professional Policing-  BA (Hons) Professional Policing Practice (Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship)
Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice (Degree Holder Entry Programme)

Professional Policing (DHEP)
Policing in the 21st Century (Undergrad)
Academic and Professional Skills Development (PCDA)
Developing Core Policing Practice (DHEP)
Counter Terrorism and Digital Policing (DHEP)

I propose to carry out research into the retention rates of police constables - comparing the effectiveness of the previous and new PEQF qualifications frameworks.
