Sue North-Bates joined the Architecture Subject Group as Senior Lecturer in 2008 but has taught and researched for Sheffield Hallam University in Fine Art and Historical and Critical Studies in Art and Design since 1991.
She also has lectured at The University of Sheffield, The University of Derby and The Open University. This has provided her with a wealth of experience in lecturing, studio teaching and developing open learning materials, as well as supervising undergraduate and post graduate dissertations. She also taught Medieval Studies at The University of Sheffield's Institute for Life-Long Learning. Sue was one of the original members of the SHU Enterprise in Curriculum Team which developed the award winning Sheffield Hallam University Venture Matrix™ student enterprise environment.
Sue's research interests include architectural history and theory; architecture and spirituality; alternative architecture; design of healthcare environments; fine art and design studio practice; history of art and design. Her teaching interests include cultural context; cultural theory; design studio; history and theory of architecture. Sue's fine art practice is represented by work in public and private collections nationally and internationally.
