My career in the construction industry began in 2004 when I was employed as a Trainee Building Control Surveyor with East Lindsey District Council. Whilst in this post I completed my BSc in Building Engineering and my NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety, progressing to becoming a fully qualified Building Control Surveyor.
I was employed by Sheffield Hallam University in 2009 as a Construction Management Lecturer and was required to deliver seminars and lectures to Undergraduate students. Soon after joining the University I was given the role of module leader and this soon progressed on to becoming Course Leader for our BSc in Building Engineering Top up Degree of which I took through a revalidation process last year in order to improve the course and enhance the student experience.
I supervise both Undergraduate and Post graduate Dissertations, providing students with support and advice when completing their Dissertations.
I am also currently leading the Departments staff development team.
I have delivered on a variety of modules including, Domestic Construction Technology, Health and Safety, Building Regulations and Planning, Structural Appraisal, Structural Design, Fire Safety, Advanced Building Control, Building Regulations and Planning, Project Management and Reflections on Professional Experience.
However it is safe to say that my main areas of specialism and enjoyment are Fire Safety, Building Regulations and Health and Safety.
