Carol has been Director of Policy and Projects at Sheffield Hallam since September 2016. Part of the Vice-Chancellor's office, Carol leads and develops specific strategic projects, and provides high level senior co-ordinating capacity.
Prior to joining Sheffield Hallam, Carol was Assistant Director for Research at the UK Commission for Employment & Skills; as a social partnership, led by employers, UKCES was an atypical public sector organisation.
As a labour market researcher and analyst at UKCES, Carol was responsible for an innovation programme working with businesses to identify ways to improve productivity through skills and workplace practice. She conducted extensive research into the skills and employment needs of UK business and how this can be met by education providers. This knowledge and understanding of the business environment, the interaction between businesses and universities and the importance of this for the whole of society is a key part of Carol's work at Sheffield Hallam.
Carol has previously held roles at the Department for Education and Skills, the Employment Service, housing associations and a metropolitan borough council.
Carol holds a BSc in Social Policy from Cardiff University and an MSc in Housing from the University of Salford.
