Our Civic University Agreement

As one of the largest education providers and employers in South Yorkshire, Sheffield Hallam University is proudly a university of place, rooted in the heart of our region and with a long history of civic engagement. We want to be a beacon for what a university can do for and with its community.

To reaffirm our connection to our local region, we have set out a series of commitments to our communities in a Civic University Agreement. These commitments seek to address the key regional challenges we face; and drive positive change to improve the lives of residents and communities across South Yorkshire.

The creation of the agreement is a key recommendation in a report published by the Civic University Commission. The report sets out how universities have the capability, opportunity and responsibility to support the places where they are based.

To ensure our commitments deliver against the real priorities of the region, we identified four focus areas, through consultation with local communities and our key regional partners.
