Estates division

The Estates division operates as a support service to the University and are responsible for:

  • managing the design, procurement and construction process of all new buildings and refurbishment works
  • day to day care and maintenance of all buildings
  • professional surveying and design service to the University
  • support for property-related issues, lease management planning permissions

All estates projects are developed with health and safety being a key factor and the division has a close working relationship with the University's Health and Safety Service.

For all new builds and major refurbishments the environmental impact is considered and where practicable sustainable elements are included in the project.

The process by which projects are initiated and managed through the University's complex approval and financial systems is generic to all projects. Projects are normally initiated by Colleges and Departments. Further information on this process is available to Sheffield Hallam staff on the staff intranet.

Our staff

With our commitment to quality and 'Investors in People' our staff are amongst the best qualified and experienced in the sector.

As an example all our plumbers and heating technicians are individually registered with The Council for Registered Gas Installers (CORGI) and are nationally accredited for all gas works undertaken. Our electricians have all completed additional city and guilds qualifications to ensure we maintain our enrolment as a conforming body of the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC).

Our groundstaff are encouraged to be qualified up to NVQ level 3 in horticulture and most have specialist arboricultural or groundsman qualifications.
