Our colleagues play an important part in the success of both our sustainability initiatives and implementing sustainable changes into our daily operations. Read more about the work that they do.
Engaging our colleagues
Our colleagues are a key stakeholder, as identified by our environmental management systems. This means we need to effectively communicate to them to adopt more sustainable behaviours across campus.
Each year, we carry out a behaviour change campaign on a key sustainability area – this could be travel, waste or energy. We share messages and tips through our Green Champions network to encourage changes whilst hosting regular events to increase engagement.
We evaluate the success of these campaigns through measurable changes. This includes the number of sign ups to a travel incentive or a reduction in energy consumption.
Our internal operations teams are key in improving the sustainability of the University. We have worked with catering, IT, facilities and printing on campaigns to change daily processes to reduce our environmental impacts. These changes are adopted by operational staff who lead by example.
Each year, we work with our management review group to create a communications and engagement plan that identifies our key stakeholders. It keeps track of our events and initiatives throughout the year to ensure engagement with our stakeholders. It also allows us to identify gaps in communications so we can target our messaging.
