SHU Prom Competition

Date: From Sunday 01 September 2019 to Thursday 31 October 2019

SHU School Prom Competition

Registrations are now open for this year's SHU School Prom Competition!

Schools/Colleges nominate a group of 4 students to represent their institution (this is usually a Prom Committee). These students will then be asked to create a 2 minute video outlining what their dream Prom might look like in line with the competition brief. The students will then attend a workshop at SHU which will be led by academics from Events Management. They'll provide more detail on the brief, answer questions and provide a taster of Events Management to identify key things the students will need to do in order to plan a successful event.

The 2 minute videos will then be submitted to me and uploaded onto the SHU corporate Facebook site. You can look at the winning school's video from last year here. Social media interactions play a part in the judging criteria so people are encouraged to like and share their favourites. When the panel get together to decide the winner, we'll be judging against criteria set in the original brief as well as who’s video was most popular with the Facebook audience.

We then invite all competing students along to a celebration event (early in the calendar year) in an evening where there'll be food, drinks, a showcase of all the videos and the announcement of the winner.

The winning school then work with a Events Planner (Roop Mullins from Double Seven Events) to plan their dream prom. They will receive a package of support from Double Seven Events, worth £5,000. Last year's competition saw Brookfield Community Academy swoop the top prize which helped make their dream Prom a reality.
