Simon was the Head of the AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator from March 2020 – April 2021; with his tenure coming to a poignant end after his unexpected passing on 4th April 2021.
Simon led the Accelerator team and was responsible for the long-term strategy of the programme. He had over 25 years of experience in innovation, research and development in both industry and academia.
A chemist by background, he had extensive experience of working on innovative product development in the med tech, and health and wellbeing sectors. He had excellent knowledge of medical devices and technologies, digital health, assistive and rehabilitation technology.
Prior to his current post, Simon played a key role in Grow MedTech – a major UK programme providing specialist support for innovation in medical technologies. This involved a consortium of six universities across the Leeds and Sheffield City Region.
Simon will be desperately missed by everyone in the AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator, wider university and his external networks.
