Hospitality Alumni Network meeting
Staff, students and alumni of the University enjoyed the 2014 Hospitality Alumni Network meeting. This year's meeting was back in Sheffield which allowed us to show off our new £3.5m catering facilities, our students and some of our hospitality research.
Firstly the audience heard from Dr Richard Tressider and Oli Young from Sheffield Business School (SBS) who discussed the technology they are beginning to use to find out how customers use websites, look at menus and what their eyes are drawn to when walking into a bar or hotel.
They undertook a small piece of research on the evening with some menus to highlight the results this equipment can give and how it relates to the hospitality industry.
Then Claire Holland and Dr Emma Martin from SBS discussed the future of work in the hospitality industry. This involved discussing Claire's research which she has undertaken over the last five years. She has been looking at and mapping trends in relation to employment and attitudes towards work within the hospitality sector, and looking at these in relation to the future of work and how it might impact the hospitality industry.
