TAR College and SLIIT Summer School Farewell Party
The Summer School Farewell Party was a great opportunity for our summer school students from Malaysia and Sri Lanka to say goodbye to their fellow students and Sheffield Hallam staff after a summer of studying here in Sheffield.
The event held in the Stoddart Building on City Campus, was a fun evening with over 200 staff and students present to say their goodbyes.
Prof Cliff Allan, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University gave an inspirational speech to the summer students from Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) in Malaysia and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SIILT) in Sri Lanka on how we have thoroughly enjoyed having the students over for 3 months. He also explained how the summer school is a great experience for the students and and will prove invaluable when they go in to their chosen career.
Andrew Bromley from International Student Support was also present to say his goodbyes, as well as amusing the students with photographs of their time in the UK, including trips to Bramall Lane the home of Sheffield United Football Club and Whitby off the east coast to try out their famous fish and chips.
Prizes were also awarded to two students, who came first and second in the university blogging competition and the two winners of the scholarship award.
The evening was concluded with a raffle prize draw and buffet.
The Alumni team were on hand to join in the fun and to encourage students to sign up to our Alumni Connect website to receive regular updates from the University and access to a blog written by Andrew Bromley on Sheffield Life.
"The evening was a great success. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was great to say a final farewell to all of our summer students. Every year the summer school just gets bigger and bigger...I can't wait for next year."
