MSc International Business and Management, Class of 2010
Ravi is an Independent Consultant at global management consulting firm Pcubed in London.
What happened after I graduated
'Since graduating, I immediately re-joined my previous employer, a small business, as an operations manager. In parallel, I continued my search for a more challenging career for the longer term and researched the management consultancy industry.
'During the research, I met with several organisations. Pcubed stood out and showed great interest in my individual potential, offering me an opportunity to work as a project management consultant.
'My engagement with Pcubed started at a graduate fair and led to further communication and interviews. Since then, I have been internally reviewed and promoted for my performance with various Pcubed clients.'
How Sheffield Hallam helped me
'During the MSc, we were often managing micro-projects and in multicultural teams, which meant management skills were important to develop and demonstrate.
'Many of the subjects we studied were very practical and relevant to the global economic environment, which always helped demonstrate to prospective employers that I was equipped with the right level of academic tools and capabilities.
'The challenging semester schedule also increased my confidence in delivery and ability to work through challenging timelines – a much expected skill!
'I would definitely recommend Sheffield Business School. There is no doubt the facilities are among the best.'
A word to the wise
'Ensure your coursework is completed to a high standard, develop key management skills, research the career field you wish to pursue and take advice from career counsellors on how to best prepare for a successful interview.
'It is important that you know about yourself and your skills, the company you are applying to, and the industry. This takes time and I found employers often quite keen to evaluate and hire the high-flyer graduates as soon as possible.'
