In September 2019, street artist and Sheffield Hallam alumnus Kid Acne is to stage his first Sheffield solo show in five years, with the support of the University.

The Have a Word exhibition will run at S1 Artspace in Sheffield's iconic Park Hill estate, and features a new series of letter-based works, informed by lyrics from Kid Acne’s forthcoming album.

As part of the exhibition run, the artist will be working with students from the Sheffield Institute of Art, his alma mater, and encouraging alumni to give back their time and career expertise to current students.

About Have a Word

‘Having made art and music in various guises over the years, these seemingly disparate elements have generally occupied unrelated spaces in my studio practice, despite both being an equal driving force in my creative output. The aim of the exhibition is to connect the dots through the exploration of lyrics and lettering, utilising limited resources and a more DIY mindset.’
- Kid Acne

The exhibition's works are informed by lyrics from the Have a Word album, set to be released on the LEX label in autumn 2019. A limited number of advance vinyl copies will be available exclusively at the exhibition.

Outside the gallery will be a series of large-scale slogan pieces, occupying a number of walls within the Park Hill complex, where Kid Acne became the unofficial/official artist in residence for several weeks. These murals are intended to put the canvases in context, whilst temporarily transforming unoccupied areas of this iconic site.

Place is important to our alumni community and this exhibition showcases the locations and phrases that endear the city of Sheffield to thousands of alumni across the world and from over the years.
