International Graduate Hired as Assistant Director at Guanfu Museum of Antiquities

Thursday 25 May 2017

Jin Liu, Class of 2014 MA Arts and Cultural Policy Management graduate has landed the prestigious role of assistant director and head of social media at the Guanfu Museum of Antiquities - China's leading privately-owned museum in Beijing.

Jin Liu, who is originally from China, came to Sheffield Hallam University to study for her Masters degree after previously studying oil painting at Shenzhen University and fashion at Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology.

She said: "The experience I gained through my Masters studies proved invaluable and I feel that it was one of the main reasons I was promoted so quickly. It was perfect in preparing me for working in a museum. It also helped me experience cultural differences between west and east so I am good at adapting to a multicultural working environment, which I think is a huge benefit. Studying in Sheffield is one of the best memories of my life."

Here, Jin Liu is pictured with Austria's First Lady on a visit to the museum and explaining a work of art to the director and chairman of Cleveland Art Museum.

Guanfu Museum was founded by renowned antique collector, critic and writer Ma Weidu in 1997. Ma named his museum after a word from the Taoist classic Tao Te Ching. “Guanfu” literally means “watch it again and again.”

The 6,000-square-metre museum is divided into several exhibition halls, including Pottery Hall, Furniture Hall, Oil Painting Hall and Art and Craft Hall and boasts cultural relics and antiques dating back to the late Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

The MA Arts and Cultural Policy Management degree was renamed to Arts and Cultural Management this year. Postgraduate study can change your future. It can help you begin or progress your career, change paths and move into a new job, or explore a subject you’re passionate about in more depth.

Sheffield Hallam University is offering all international students (non-EU) an automatic discount of at least £1,000 for full-time taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Sheffield Hallam graduates could be eligible for a discount of up to 25% towards postgraduate tuition fees.
