Meet our international British Council award winner

Tuesday 05 March 2019

We are delighted to announce that class of 2017 Paediatric Neurodisability alumna, Omnia El Rashidy, has won the British Council Entrepreneurial award!

The British Council celebrates the outstanding achievements of alumni internationally and showcases the value of a UK degree for finalists who are leaders in their fields. The prestigious award recognises Omnia’s incredible neuro-disability work in Egypt and celebrates how she has utilised her UK university experiences to positively impact her community, profession and country.

Since Omnia finished her postgraduate diploma at Sheffield Hallam, she has taken her expertise to hospitals, shared and developed a holistic approach to the treatment of children with disabilities and worked with families to support their welfare.

She is also the proud founder of the first keto- clinic for epilepsy treatment in Egypt, and the Maharat Masr Neurodisability Clinic, which provides services for children with varying disabilities. Her medical programme and expertise have enhanced the quality of life for many families with disabled children.

Omnia perceives the award as "very special” and plays tribute to her powerful philosophy of always pursuing your passions, no matter what stage of life you are at. She said: "Applying for a master’s degree in Neurodisability at Sheffield Hallam University at the age of 52 was not an easy decision, however, it has proven to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.

"Studying at Sheffield Hallam was such a great experience and an amazing opportunity, going to the UK, observing the community and social support available relating to my field, getting hands-on experience, was one of the most valuable experiences I could have.

"I truly encourage everyone to pursue their passion, no matter what their age or background is, it's never too late - hard work will always pay off." Here at Sheffield Hallam, we are a leading provider of education both in the UK and through our overseas partners. You are part of an international alumni community of over 245,000 alumni based in 130 countries who are all making a global impact.
