Real estate alumni share invaluable industry insights with students
Tuesday 27 April 2021
In a normal year, a key part of our real estate student's learning is through field trips, where we create opportunities for them to meet with property professionals at their sites and hear all about their projects.
The coronavirus pandemic has made it impossible for this type of activity to take place therefore the Department for the Natural and Built Environment needed to find a way to bring the professional world directly to students. A series of online events were organised, each aimed at creating that encounter virtually.
The ‘People in Property’ series took place in March 2021 and showcased the careers and expertise of 30 real estate alumni and employer contacts. Over 270 students and alumni registered to attend the events.
Luke Bennett, Joint Course Leader for Sheffield Hallam’s BSc (Hons) Real Estate course said:
‘As a course that can trace its routes back over 40 years, we have always known that we have a real strength in depth when it comes to alumni and employer contacts. But the pandemic forced us to fully test that resource - and we were delighted at the enthusiastic support that we received.
‘Through these sessions our students heard directly from practitioners about their career journeys (in both the UK and around the world), their tips for success, the variety of professional roles available in real estate, and how the sector is set to be transformed into the future.’
We continue to be thankful for the involvement of our alumni and supporter community in contributing to our student’s experience. The necessary move to virtual events now means that more of our alumni can get involved from wherever they are in the word.
