How our animation graduates helped the NSPCC tackle a difficult topic

What we did

Creating video content takes specialist facilities and expertise.

So when the NSPCC needed to create an animated video for an awareness campaign, they got in touch with Sheffield Hallam University.

Animation course leader Melvyn Ternan contacted his recent graduates Liam Hall and Dan Hodgson for the work.

The result

Liam and Dan collaborated with award-winning children's author Christina Gabbitas to create an animation based on her book Share Some Secrets — which encourages children who are experiencing abuse to speak out.

The project has been endorsed by the NSPCC and Barnado's, and has been shared widely across their channels and support networks.

Liam and Dan have now started their own business with the help of Sheffield Hallam.

They say

“Sheffield Hallam's animation students have brought Share Some Secrets to life with their short film and we hope this will mean more children, who may not read the book, will see it and understand the messages behind it; encouraging them to speak out.

I am very grateful for the support of Sheffield Hallam University with such an important topic.”
