How our degree apprenticeships are bringing more women into engineering

What we did

We’ve worked with JCB to develop degree apprenticeships since 2015. It's helped them to recruit more women into engineering roles.

The result

The new intake has boosted the profile of JCB as a business, and helped to raise awareness of its commitment to diversity.

Holly Broadhurst was named 2017 Degree Apprentice of the Year. Now a full-time design engineer at JCB, Holly recently completed her apprenticeship and designs compact 360 tracked excavators.

JCB apprentice Daisy Coombes was also featured as part of the national ‘Get in Go Far’ campaign and was subsequently named the Bryan Hildrew Apprentice of the Year 2017.

They say

“The best thing about working with apprentices is that I get a chance to work with really great, enthusiastic people and support their learning, and I actually get to see the benefits of that. The advantage it brings to JCB is that we’re slightly ahead of the game in growing our own talent. We get a full spectrum of capabilities coming from an apprenticeship and a range of offerings that allow us to take someone through to senior and academic technical capabilities in the business.”
