Accounting and finance within the sport sector is incredibly unique. On this course, you’ll learn how to apply professional accounting and finance skills to this unique industry which will prepare you for a dynamic and successful career.
How you learn
All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
This course aims to prepare you for a successful career within the field, so you will discuss and critically evaluate real life scenarios. Learning takes place through a combination of timetabled contact sessions on campus and online, screencasts and guided/independent study, supported by superb facilities and learning materials.

Following the Sheffield Business School’s Strategy to become a leading applied Business School, this course is designed to be extremely applied in nature. We make the course come to life by incorporating real world projects into teaching and assessments.
The course also puts your learning into practice through live consultancy business projects. These projects put your acquired skills to the test of solving real world business problems and undertake leading research in this field. As part of this, you will have the opportunity to work individually on a 'live' project in conjunction with a client sourced by specialist teams at the university who work alongside private, public and third sector organisations both within the sport industry and beyond.
With guest lectures from the likes of industry leaders, professional experts, our Executives in Residency and academics from other institutions, there is ample opportunity to make lasting industry contacts. Our teaching staff include experienced academics, many of which have also had senior careers in accounting and finance. Many have also worked in a variety of financial sectors including in the sport industry. Their industry knowledge and expertise feeds into the learning and teaching for this course. This is reinforced with expert lecturers and regular industry guests, who will help you tackle both theoretical concepts and practical challenges.

Where will I study?
You study at City Campus through a structured mix of lectures, seminars and practical sessions as well as access to digital and online resources to support your learning.
City Campus is located in the heart of Sheffield, within minutes of the train and bus stations.

Equipment and facilities
This course gives you access to Bloomberg terminals in a dedicated suite with 24/7 access. You can gain a Bloomberg certificate as part of your studies.
You can also access cutting edge financial data from professional football clubs in Europe through our unique partnership with Off The Pitch. You'll have access to a unique football finance database that provides financial and sporting data for over 220 European professional football clubs. We are also connected with InSport Education to provide further CPD opportunities for students in the field of sport finance, and you will receieve a free subscription to the Financial Times FT.com resource.
This must include at least 56 points from 2 A Levels or equivalent BTEC qualifications. For example:
- BCC at A Level
- DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma.
- A combination of qualifications, which may include AS levels, EPQ and general studies
We also expect you to demonstrate through your personal statement an interest in and awareness of accounting or some level of practical experience.
- English language or literature at grade C or 4
- Maths at grade D or 3
• Access - an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2. At least 15 Level 3 credits must be at merit grade or above, from a QAA-recognised Access to HE course, or an equivalent Access to HE certificate.
If English is not your first language you need an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill.
You can apply for advanced entry on to this course, depending on the number of professional accountancy examinations you have passed.
If you do not have any of the qualifications above but have relevant experience you are welcome to discuss potential opportunities with the admissions tutor.
Please note the University will only admit students who are aged 18 or over at the point of enrolment.

Fees and funding
Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time undergraduate study in 2022/23 is £9,250 per year. During your placement year you will pay a reduced fee of £1,200.
