Applied learning

Work placements

You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Previous students have worked with Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Reiss and ASOS.

Live projects

During the course you gain valuable practical experience from working on projects with fashion companies. In the past students have worked on a real brief with design and marketing departments at Ted Baker, Amanda Wakeley and Vivienne Westwood, with awards such as cash prizes or a work placement within the industry.

Field trips

All students are offered the opportunity to visit fashion centres including London, Paris and Amsterdam to visit exhibitions, studios and salons. Previous trips have involved a behind-the-scenes visit to Burberry's headquarters and flagship store, an exclusive talk from a world-leading couturier at the Fashion and Textile Museum, and a tour of Paris ateliers.

We currently receive exclusive tickets for a select number of students to attend the Burberry Catwalk shows in London. It's an incredible opportunity to visit the backstage of a real fashion show, view garments up close, and gain real insight from working designers in the industry.

Competitions

Students are encouraged to enter national and international competitions such as the International Talent Support Contest and the Fashion Awareness Direct Competition to help gain exposure in the fashion industry. Recent students have been finalists and winners of various such competitions, which saw them showcasing their work at Graduate Fashion Week and other prestigious events.
