The course gives you the knowledge and skills to tackle engineering challenges in areas such as microstructural engineering of materials, fracture, degradation and evaluation, composite materials, and materials processing and manufacture.
How you learn
Learn about the structure, properties, processing and performance of materials used in industry, including the development of new or improved materials and advanced processing methods. Then gain a practical understanding of the critical links between the design, development and realisation of new products, processes and structures through testing and analysis in the lab. All of your studies are based around our excellent materials testing and analysis facilities.

This course prepares you for a career in energy industries including oil, nuclear, wind, wave and solar aerospace industries electronics industries defence advanced manufacturing.
This course is accredited by the Institute of Material, Minerals and Mining Engineers (IOM3) for the purposes of meeting the academic requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer with further learning, and partially meeting the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer, with accredited prior qualification.

Fees and funding
Our tuition fee for UK/EU students starting part-time undergraduate study in 2020/2021 are regulated by the UK government and are yet to be confirmed. For an indication, our tuition fees for UK/EU students starting this course in 2019/20 are £4,625 per year (based on studying 60 credits per year).
