This course allows you to top up a HND, foundation degree or equivalent in a relevant subject to a honours degree in event and leisure management. You'll work on real events and discover the roles that multi-purpose leisure and sporting venues play in the sector, graduating as an employable specialist with widely sought-after expertise.

You’ll develop an in-depth knowledge of the events industry – such as experience design and the latest trends and issues in events and leisure management. You’ll have the opportunity to gain a specialist understanding of different event sectors including outdoor events, sporting, and cultural events. You’ll gain strong foundations in core business management skills – such as marketing and research. With these skills, you’ll develop into a career-ready and well-rounded event and leisure professional.

Applied learning

Live projects

As part of this course, you will undertake a large consultancy based project worth 40 credits where you will design a solution to a real world event leisure-based problem.

Work experience

You have access to work experience opportunities across various event sectors (including the leisure sector) available from an online portal updated in real time, with roles ranging from local charity events to international festivals in Europe. Your modules will also feature visits in and around the region.

Field trips

There will be an opportunity to join field trips and site visits during the course that enhance your learning and given a practical application to knowledge gained in the classroom.

Networking opportunities

Our links with industry mean you’ll be able to engage with a wide range of guest speakers from across the events industry. Guest speakers have included Martin Green of Eurovision 2023, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Hull City of Culture 2017, London 2012 organising committee (LOCOG), Simon Graveling of Athens 2004, London 2012 and Sochi 2014, Arther Forbes-Whitmore from Ticketmaster, Lucy Kinsella from Festival Republic, Simon Read (Event Producer) from Ashfield Meetings Experiences and Jon Hughes from KPMG.

You’ll also benefit from our membership with the Association of Events Management Educators and National Outdoor Events Association. Since 2002 we’ve developed an impressive track record of forming tomorrow’s leaders in Events Management – with successful alumni working across the globe. Our graduates regularly return to share their career stories and events expertise.

The UK events market size was valued at £61.5 billion in 2018 and Projected to reach £114.8 bn by 2032 (Allied Market Research, 2023).

Equipment and facilities

Our students learn and develop their events management skills in our events spaces and specialist facilities on campus and gain work experience in the community through a wealth of partner venues and events in Sheffield and the surrounding area.  Including The Leadmill, Sheffield City Hall, and Tramlines Festival.

We’ve invested over £100m in new facilities to help you study how and when you want. This means 24-hour libraries and study spaces designed by our students.

Entry requirements

All students

Normally one from:

• A HND or foundation degree in a relevant subject, with an overall merit profile from year two modules.

• Equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.

If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill.

Fees and funding

Home students

Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time undergraduate study in 2024/25 is £9,250 per year. These fees are regulated by the UK government and are therefore subject to changes in government policy.

If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. International students

Our tuition fee for International/EU students starting full-time study in 2024/25 is £16,655 per year. Students on this course will be eligible for a £6,000 scholarship towards their tuition fees.
