How you learn

The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other sport foundation students, then move on to the degree.

Whether you aspire to coach children, adolescents or adults as a professional sports coach we extend your knowledge and understanding of designing coaching sessions, plan for long-term participant development or adapt your delivery to achieve desired outcomes, we'll help you get there.

You learn through

  • lectures
  • seminars
  • tutorials
  • practical sessions or workshops.
  • project supervision of your students in an extensive range of research topics
  • participation in practical coaching activities to demonstrate your ability to develop others
  • field trips and external visits to enhance your learning

In the foundation year, you build your Sport Coaching interest and knowledge alongside developing your academic skills. You receive face-to-face feedback regularly during your modules in order to prepare you for the completion of your assignments. This will be via tasks set for you to undertake in the module seminars or in your independent study time.
